First baseman Lance Berkman sent the media into a frenzy this week when he said he would be willing to accept a trade if the team is struggling come the All-Star Break.

The Astros enter this weekend’s home series against the Padres with a 9-19 record after losing nine of their last 10. They stand 8 1/2 games back of the NL Central-leading Cardinals.

“If it was me and I was running the show here, if we didn’t make a great comeback like we did in ’05 and be sort of around .500 by the All-Star break, I’d try to trade every veteran I could to reload,” Berkman told the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday. “That’s the quickest way you’re going to be able to reload and get it going in the right direction.
