The 2012 MLB regular season is well underway with a full month of baseball already in the books. It is still a long road to October baseball but paths are already starting to take shape and many surprises have already occurred along the way. Shortstop Alex Gonzalez and outfielder Carlos Gomez joined first baseman Mat Gamel on the disabled list May 5th as the latest casualties of the Milwaukee Brewers’ disastrous California portion of their nine game road trip that started on April 27th. The Brewers brought up infielder Brooks Conrad from Triple A Nashville to replace Gamel on May4th, and now two more infielders from the Sounds will replace Gonzalez and Gomez.

Brian McNamee, Clemens’ former personal trainer, could testify “before Tuesday,” prosecutor Steven Durham told U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton. McNamee’s claims that Clemens, 49, used anabolic steroids and human growth hormone during his 24-year career are at the center of the government’s charges that the pitcher lied to Congress about drug use. …

One of the best things about baseball is that you can be any size or shape to play professionally. And never was that more evident than on Tuesday night in Houston when baseball’s tallest player pitched to its shortest in a true David vs. Goliath matchup .
For those keeping score at home, Jon Rauch of the New York Mets stands 6-foot-11 while Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros stands 5-foot-5.  Rauch got the better of the eighth-inning at-bat by inducing a line out, but it was Altuve who went home with the victory as the Astros beat the Mets 6-3 .
