Recap: Brian Moehler was torched in the first few innings of Thursday afternoon’s rubber game. His stats read as follows: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, K, 3 HR. For the second strait day the Astros pitching could not seem keep the baseball inside the ballpark. The streaking Brewers hit 4 homeruns against Houston’s pitching in Thursday’s game.
After Moehler gave up that many runs early all the Astros could do was try and play catch up. They almost succeeded by cutting the deficit to 2 runs after a Mark Loretta homerun late in the game. However, if turned out the Brewers would pad their lead and go on to win the game soundly.
Thoughts: Coming into the season the big question mark facing the Astros was do they have enough starting pitching to be a contender. The first few months of the season the Astros starters seemed to perhaps overachieve and we are starting to see now why everyone was concerned heading into the season. June has been a terrible month for the Astros after coming off such a wonderful month of May. If the Astros are going to make a push it needs to come soon. They must take advantage of the fact that both the Cardinals and Cubs will be missing two All-Star caliber players for at least a month. (Injuries to Soriano and to Pujols)
Next Up: The NY Yankees come to Minute Maid Park for an Inter-league showdown. It should be an interesting 3 games series to watch this weekend.
