San Francisco Giants fans (like me) urged management to sign players like Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Jose Reyes or to re-sign Carlos Beltran. General Manager Brian Sabean didn’t bite on those free agent signings, and, as of the middle of May, Giants fans are breathing a sigh of relief that they did not pull the trigger on those players.

The Milwaukee Brewers took two of three games in their Mother’s Day weekend series May 11th-13th against the Chicago Cubs. The two clubs entered the series tied for last in the National League Central, and the Brewers moved into a tie for fourth place with the Houston Astros at the end of the weekend. The 15-19 Brewers are surprisingly just five games out of first place behind the St. Louis Cardinals. By comparison, after 34 games in 2011 the Crew was 14-20 and in fifth place on the way to their best record ever and the N.L Central crown, so it’s much too early to throw in the towel.
