Wandy Rodriguez started on the mound for the Astros and pitched five innings. Rodriguez got the no decision after giving up six hits and five runs while walking four batters and giving up one home run. Oscar Villarreal gave up one run in the sixth inning as he pitched in relief of Rodriguez. Tim Byrdak and Geoff Geary pitched three combined scoreless innings after Villarreal left the game.
Ty Wigginton had the big hit for the Astros as he hit a three run home run in the sixth inning. Hunter Pence had a rbi single in the first inning that scored Michael Bourn. Carlos Lee got into the rbi column with a rbi double in the seventh inning but that would be the Astros final run of the game.
]]>Oscar Villarreal gave up one run in the ninth inning as he wasn’t able to shut down the Rangers in the ninth inning.
Hunter Pence had a three run triple in the first inning to lead the Astros at the plate with three rbi. David Newhan then had a two run double in the second inning as the Astros went up 5-0. The Astros weren’t done scoring in the second inning as Newhan then scored on a infield single by Lance Berkman. Carlos Lee then singled in Berkman for the final Astros run of the game.
The Astros have a huge series coming up against the Boston Red Sox starting on Friday. I have a feeling the Astros will lose two of three games. What do you think Astros fans?
]]>Shawn Chacon only lasted five innings on the night as he gave up eight hits and six earned runs. Chacon had problems locating his pitches as he gave up four walks and two home runs in the game. With the loss against the Orioles, Chacon is now 2-3 on the season.
Tim Byrdak threw the sixth and seventh inning and gave up one run in relief. Oscar Villarreal was finally able to come in and pitch a scoreless inning in the eighth for the Astros.
Miguel Tejada and Hunter Pence both hit solo home runs in the game. Tejada ended up leading the team with two rbi in the game. Kaz Matsui, Lance Berkman, and Pence all chipped in with one rbi each.
The Astros will now travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays. The Astros better bring their “A” game because the Rays just got done sweeping the red hot Chicago Cubs in a three game series.
]]>Besides Tejada’s two rbi, Lance Berkman and Brad Ausmus both had two rbi as well. Berkman and Ausmus both hit two run home runs in the game to account for their rbi’s.
Brian Moehler started the game for the Astros and tossed five innings. He allowed eight hits and three runs to get the no decesion in the game. Oscar Villarreal pitched 1/3 of an inning to record the win and Jose Valverde notched his tenth save of the season when he shut the Giants down in the ninth inning.

]]>Brandon Backe took the loss to drop to 2-4 on the season. Backe pitched six innings and gave up six hits and four runs in the game. Oscar Villarreal gave up three runs while Wesley Wright gave up another run.
Carlos Lee, Hunter Pence, and Ty Wigginton all had one rbi each for the Astros. The Astros weren’t ablt to string together three or four hits in a row to have a big inning and that is why they lost the game in my opinion. They just couldn’t come up with that big hit when they needed it as they left 21 runners on base.
]]>Lance Berkman hit his fifth home run of the year when he went deep in the first inning on a three run shot. Miguel Tejada hit a two run home run in the second inning and finished with three RBI. Hunter Pence, Carlos Lee, and Geoff Blum all got a RBI as well.
Roy Oswalt was the opening pitcher for the Astros throwing for seven innings and allowed six hits, three runs, and two walks. This win puts him at 2-3 for the year. The Astros brought in Tim Byrdak and Oscar Villarreal to pitch the last two innings of the game.
The Astros will go up against The Padres again tonight and then will go on the road to face the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
]]>Brandon Backe only lasted three innings as he gave up ten hits, six runs (five were earned), two walks and two strikeouts. Oscar Villarreal and Jose Valverde both gave up two earned runs as well. I don’t think Valverde’s head is in the right place as he has really sucked it up the last two games.
Miguel Tejada and Carlos Lee both went deep for the Astros. Both home runs were solo shots and that was the only offense that the Astros could come up with.
** It was also mentioned that Miguel Tejada is actully 33 not 31 like most teams had thought. ESPN.Com is reporting that they have seen his real birth certificate that states he is 33. Tejada told the Astros the truth, that he really is a couple years older then he had told teams before.**
]]>Pujols hit two homeruns off Astros pitching and also had a RBI single in the game. All that came after he and Bradon Backe got into a heated argument about Pujols slide in the previous game. I don’t think Pujols is the kind of guy that you want to piss off before a game!
Starting pitcher Chris Sampson has had flu-like symptoms all week and only lasted four innings took the loss for the Astros. He allowed six hits and three runs and said he was drained after those four innings. Brian Moehler, Dave Borkowski, and Oscar Villarreal all pitched in relief and all gave up one earned run.
Michael Bourn, Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee, and Mark Loretta each had one RBI for the Astros.
]]>Roy Oswalt took the loss for the Astros. He did not strikeout one batter which is unheard of for Oswalt. I would have have figured he would would have struckout atleast give Cubs batters as they have a lot of free swingers on their team. Instead of swinging and missing however, they were swinging and hitting the ball around the ballpark.
After Oswalt left the game, Oscar Villarreal came in and walked Aramis Ramirez and then Cecil Cooper decided to bring in Wesley Wright to face Kosuke Fukudome who then hit a double to left field that gave the Cubs the lead.
Carlos Lee went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles but it wasn’t enough.
]]>Oscar Villarreal picked up the loss for the Astros as he gave up an earned run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Starter Shawn Chacon pitched six innings while giving up two earned runs.
It was the lack of offense that hurt the Astros on Thursday however. You would think they could score more then two runs off of Randy Wolf. But Wolf held down the Astros for six innings and then let the bullpen take over.
Mark Loretta and J.R. Towels had an RBI each for the Astros.
The Astros now travel to Chicago to take on the Chicago Cubs in a weekend series.
