Today was a bad day all around for the Astros tonight. First, Roy Oswalt left the game after the first inning with his hip bothering him again. Then, the Astros got pummeled 10-0.

Right after Oswalt left, Chad Paronto came in and gave up a two-run homer to Ron Belliard of the Nationals. He gave up another run in the 3rd inning to end his night.

After a couple strong showings, Dave Borkowski went back to his old ways. He gave up 7 runs in only two innings. Just when you think our bullpen could turn into a strong point, they blow up.

There wasn’t too much on the offensive side of the game for the Astros either, the only strong points were Carlos Lee and Kazuo Matsui each had 2 hits.

I wish there was more to write about on this game, but really it’s embarassing to even write this entry. I hope this game sends a strong message to Ed Wade to wake up and realize this team is not built for the playoffs. I know that Oswalt got injured and that had a lot to do with the loss, but something needs to change. On the radio this morning Wade said he doesn’t think the Houston fans want to start rebuilding. News flash Ed, it’s not up to the fans, it’s up to you. Rebuild and be competitive in a couple years and you will have more fans. Right now people are just losing interest in this squad, and rightfully so.

Maybe we will wake up tomorrow and find a headline about some major roster moves. Atleast we can dream…

The Houston Astros only had six hits in the game but they made sure that they all meant something as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 3-1.  Roy Oswalt pitched six innings and limited the Dodgers to only one run in the game and the offense did just enough to get the victory.

Oswalt gave up a rbi sac fly in the first inning to James Loney of the Dodgers but after that he settled down and when he had to he worked his way out of all the jams he got himself into.  Oswalt struck out nine batters over six innings of action.

Chris Sampson, Wesley Wright, and Jose Valverde all pitched in relief of Oswalt.  Valverde ended up picking up his 22nd save of the season.

Brad Ausmus led the Astros at the plate as he delivered in the fourth inning with a two run single.  Prior to Ausmus’s two run single, Mark Loretta had a rbi single in the fourth inning.  Lance Berkman hit his 22nd home run in the first inning when he took Eric Stults deep.

Astros will now try to go up 2-0 in the series on Tuesday night.  Astros Blog

** We should mention that Roy Oswalt left the game after six innings, but no reports have been released as to what kind of injury it is **  Let’s hope it isn’t to bad and he can make his next start.

The Houston Astros had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning but were not able to push across any runs and they lost to the Texas Rangers by the score of 3-2.  Miguel Tejada grounded out to end the game when the Astros had the bases loaded.  That was a tough way to lose a game, especially to the instate rivals.

Roy Oswalt took the loss for the Royals after pitching seven inning.  Oswalt gave up seven hits and all three runs.  The one hit that really hurt him was a two run home run by Max Ramirez in the fourth inning.  Chris Sampson did a good job as he pitched the final two innings and only gave up one hit while not allowing a run to score.

The Astros offense had ten hits in the game but they only scored two runs.  Both of those runs came in the second inning when Michael Bourn hit a two run home run.   You can look at one state in the box score and see why the Astros lost this game.  They left 20 runners on base.  When you leave 20 runners on base you don’t deserve to win in my opinion.

Wandy Rodriguez will battle Kevin Millwood and the Rangers on Thursday for the series win.  How do you think Wandy will throw?  Leave us a comment and let us know!

After dropping 9 of their last 11 on a road trip that saw everything from pitching to hitting crumble before their very eyes, the Astros returned to Minute Maid park Monday night and crushed the Brewers in a 6-1 victory.

To start things off Roy Oswalt slit the throat of his evil twin and walked onto the mound to produce a devastating 7 inning rout of the Milwaukee offense. Allowing only one run, ZERO walks, and 10 strikeouts the Wizard looked as in control as ever.

Lance Berkman also made his presence felt in Minute Maid as he came a double away from hitting for the cycle. In fact, 5 of the 6 runs scored Monday were by his hands. His two run homer in the 2nd brought home fellow All-Star candidate Miguel Tejada, and his bomb over the head of center fielder Mike Cameron rolled up into the wall of Tal’s Hill sending home 3 and nearly resulting in an inside the park Grand Slam.

Other solid offensive production came at the hands of Darin Erstad whose pinch hit drove in Michael Born who had gotten on base with an excellent bunt at the beginning of the inning. Afterwards, Kaz Matsui loaded the bases with a single into left field continuing a string of impressive performances at the plate.

Coming home is good, and if the Astros can sweep the Brewers as they did in their first series this season then the Yankees better look out come Friday.

RECAP: Roy Oswalt looked strong in the first inning, but things quickly fell apart for the Astros ace, and he ended his outing after the 6th inning, having surrendered five runs to the Phillies. The bullpen stepped in but gave up an additional pair of runs in their collective three innings of work, cementing the Phillies 7-5 victory. Wesley Wright gave up one of the runs and was credited with the loss, and Fernando Nieve was tagged for the final run the bullpen allowed. Tim Byrdak continued to impress, coming in with two runners on and only one out, and managed to get out of the inning with only one of the runners coming around to score. Former Astros closer Brad Lidge came in and pitched a scoreless 9th inning, nailing down his 12th save of the season.

Michael Bourn recorded yet another multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 and stealing his 21st base of the year, tying him for the Major League lead. Ty Wigginton had the best performance of the night, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Lance Berkman continued his hot-hitting ways as well, recording three hits in five at-bats and driving in a run.

THOUGHTS: The offense had a good showing tonight, but Oswalt and the bullpen both faltered. The Astros will have to pitch more effectively in the coming three games against the potent Phillies lineup if they’re going to do well in this series.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Ty Wigginton; two singles, a double and two RBIs.

ASTROS RECORD: 27-22 (.551)

The Houston Astros rallied to score all seven of their runs in the sixth through eighth inning as they defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-3.  The Astros pushed across three runs in the sixth and eighth innings and one run in the seventh inning. Two Giants errors really helped the astros out in the eighth inning as well.

Lance Berkman provided a two run shot to lead the Astros with two rbi.  Hunter Pence, Miguel Tejada, and Jose Cruz Jr. all had one rbi each in the game.

Roy Oswalt pitched eight innings to pick up the win for the Astros.  Oswalt gave up five hits and three runs while improving his record to 4-3 on the season.

Once again Carlos Lee came up big for the Houston Astros as he singled in the game winning run for the Astros in the ninth inning as they beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Jose Valverde ended up getting the win as he pitched the ninth inning.  Valverde is now 4-1 on the season.  Astros starting pitcher Roy Oswalt got a no decision after tossing seven innings of six hit baseball.  Oswalt allowed three runs in the game which all came off the bat of Ryan Zimmerman.  Zimmerman took him him deep for a two run home run and also had a RBI single in the game.

With the win, the Astros improved to 18-16 on the season.

The Houston Astros picked up a 2-1 victory of the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday evening.  It was a big win for the Astros who improved their record to 6-9 on the season.

Roy Oswalt pitched a great game as he pitched seven inning and only gave up five hits and one earned run.  Oswalt struck out four batters and walked two.

Wesley Wright pitched a scoreless eigth inning and Doug Brocail pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season.

Michael Bourn and Carlos Lee both and one RBI for the Astros.  It was a slow night at the plate for the Astros, it was a good thing that Oswalt was on top of his game and held the Phillies to only one run.

The Houston Astros had the Chicago Cubs right where they wanted them, that was until the 7th inning when the Cubs exploded for five runs and went on to win the game 9-7.

Roy Oswalt took the loss for the Astros.  He did not strikeout one batter which is unheard of for Oswalt.  I would have have figured he would would have struckout atleast give Cubs batters as they have a lot of free swingers on their team.  Instead of swinging and missing however, they were swinging and hitting the ball around the ballpark.

After Oswalt left the game, Oscar Villarreal came in and walked Aramis Ramirez and then Cecil Cooper decided to bring in Wesley Wright to face Kosuke Fukudome who then hit a double to left field that gave the Cubs the lead.

Carlos Lee went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles but it wasn’t enough.
